Good practice tips

General guidance — always follow your estate/Rubber Board extension officer's advice for your specific trees and soil.

🌅

Tap early, before the bark dries

Latex flows best in cool, humid pre-dawn hours. Aim to finish tapping before direct sun hits the panel.

🌧️

Never tap on wet bark

Tapping a rain-wet panel dilutes latex and invites bark disease. Wait until the panel is dry, even if it means tapping later.

🍂

Watch for monsoon disease

Heavy, sustained rain raises the risk of Abnormal Leaf Fall and Pink disease. Consider rain-guarding panels and check for early symptoms.

🔪

Keep the tapping cut shallow

Cutting too deep wounds the cambium and shortens the tree's tapping life. A consistent, shallow cut keeps panels productive for years.

📅

Rest days matter

Standard d/2 or d/3 tapping systems give the tree recovery time. Skipping rest days for short-term yield wears trees out faster.

🥽

Tap safely

Early-morning tapping means low light — carry a headlamp, wear closed footwear, and be mindful of snakes and slippery slopes.
